Well for those who like DPU powered trains it looks is if there are a few more trains that have been added to the DP power list. The DILNTW and S-SEALPC both ran with DP units this weekend. The DILNTW had 5 units up front all on line and 1 unit shoving, as for the stack train I'm not sure when the DP was added but this train had a major power issue west of NTW (the trailing unit blew and threw oil all over the first two 5 pack well cars) which may have led to the adding of power to the rear of the train Vs the head end. Also from my observations the DP's are added to westbound trains and removed from eastbound trains at NTW. In any event it looks like for the time being what ever the BNSF is testing may be here to stay if anyone has been down along the transcon lines across IL/IA 8 out of 10 trains are DP'd down there and may be migrating north for the winter. |

I'm not one to argue with experience but where is this $50,000 in fuel coming from? the units are going to burn up fuel wether on the head end or DP so the fuel cost is the same. I am willing to bet a knuckle cost alot more then $100. think of the time and crew cost of switching one knuckle. $100 saving over every train adds up quick, plus the time saved not having to change one out in the middle of know where on a nite like last nite. |
